Text: The Service of Vespers for Holy Pentecost

+

About Holy Pentecost: The Feast commemorates the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the Day of Pentecost, a feast of the Jewish tradition. It also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the Baptism of the thousands who on that day believed in the Gospel message of Salvation through Jesus Christ. The Feast is also seen as the culmination of the revelation of the Holy Trinity…

Prayers

Apolytikion: Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fishermen all-wise, sending upon them the Holy Spirit and, through them, netting the world. O Loving One, Glory to You.

Kontakion: When the Most High came down and confused the tongues, He divided the nations; but when He distributed the tongues of fire He called all to unity. Therefore, with one voice, we Glorify the All-Holy Spirit!

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will Pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you…. These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you…”

“…but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
